Biography

Shas lives locally in South West London and is very proud to have been chosen to represent Wimbledon for the Liberal Democrats. Having grown up in Tooting, Shas has many strong links to the Wimbledon area.

Shas is committed to being a strong local voice for the people of Wimbledon. As a mother she is passionate about giving every child a fair start in life, and about working with Nick Clegg and the Liberal Democrats to make Wimbledon fairer and greener for the next generation.

Shas has been a councillor in neighbouring Richmond council since 2006. She recently stepped down from her post as Assistant Cabinet Member for Energy and Climate Change, to which she was able to bring insight from her academic background in Environmental Technology. She is currently a member of the Adult Health and Social Care Overview and Scrutiny Committee.

After graduating with a degree in Chemistry from UCL, Shas' work experience included auxiliary nursing at New Cross Hospital, teaching "O" and "A" level Chemistry and as an Advertising Executive. She followed that with a Masters in Environmental Technology at Imperial College London.

Married with three teenaged children, Shas devotes the rest of her time to her council work and on campaigning on important local issues such as opposing expansion of Heathrow, inappropriate local development plans such as those for the Rainbow Industrial Estate in Raynes Park, and the threat of closure to Accident & Emergency and Maternity services at Kingston Hospital.
